The wheel arches of a car provide protection from splashes, dirt, stones and other road surface elements. They surround the wheel and form an open niche on the outside for placing the wheel and related suspension parts. The wheel arches are made by thermal vacuum forming. A sheet of thermoplastic plastic is used to make the wheel arch. The part has a constant wall thickness. The taper value is from 10° to 20°. These characteristics of the part are beneficial for the use of vacuum forming technology. The tolerances on the matrix for the manufacture of wheel arches by the vacuum forming method are less strict due to the presence of volumetric shrinkage in the formed part after removing it from the mold. Before forming, the plastic sheet is preheated using a compressed vacuum and the heated plastic sheet is pulled to the matrix with holes. As a result, the plastic sheet takes the shape of the matrix.
