Optimal STL export settings for the 3d printer

3D printing is booming–big time. And since most 3D printers accept STL exports, engineers are using the export format more and more.

I’ve experimented with 3D printing using different settings of the STL export format. In this Video, I’ll share my experiences with you. For the sake of accuracy, for these tests I used NX 11 and an Anycubic mega X 3D printer.

Now this is a much more interesting topic, I guess once you change the settings for a finer quality export, the printing time changes somehow too?

What can you tell us about that secondary effect of those changes?

Hi Emil, it is always a decission that we muss make: quality or time? if you change the export settings to get more details you can achieve a better quality but the printing time will be a little bit longer. It is up to you

I always do this/have had my default settings changed for a few years now.

In solidworks I changed my .STL settings to a 5 degree angle as opposed to the 10degree. basically the same as what you are doing just a different program. It stays set to this value as default after change. I notice very very little increase in print time due to this.

file>save as>select stl> options button> change settings.
