I am familiar with CATIA V5 for design and surfacing work. I recently came across Geomagic Design X and learned that it is widely used for scan-to-CAD workflows. Since I haven’t had hands on experience with Design X yet, I would like to ask the group: For reverse engineering projects, how does Geomagic Design X compare to CATIA V5? Which one do you recommend, and why?
Hi,
I usually use Catia V5, but in this case. For reverse engineering projects, you should use Geomagic Design X.
Because I scan in 3D and create *.stl files. In the Catia, processing is slower (may be drop if the *.stl file is large) than Geomagic Design X.
I am also a beginner to Geomagic Design X,
Thanks!
In my experience both may have their pros and cons. If you looking for a faster RE, go for Geomagic since its a software created specifically for RE. theres a lot of features that is making the RE process a lot easier and faster. However if its involving complex surfaces, it does have its limitation. There you can tackle with CATIA V5. With CATIA surfaces, eventhough it may take longer and more work, but it able you to create complex surfaces with high quality. But bare in mind, this will come with experience. Yes for CATIA you may need to invest the time to learn and master it, but it will be worth it
